Doğu Avrupalı hayvan, gücüyle dünyayı vurduğu zaman tarih 1991’in ortalarına denk geliyordu.. Bu gücün arkasındaki isim Nergal’di. Grup üç kişi yola çıkmış ve bir kaç demo hazırlamıştı. Bu demoların en dikkat çekeni ise 1993 tarihli ‘From the Pagan Vastlands’ oldu ki bu demo, şarkı sözlerini ve besteleri yapanların potansiyelini gösteriyordu. Entropy Records ile yapılan anlaşma gruba çıkış albümünü yapma şansı Verdi ve grup ‘And The Forests Dream Eternally’ adlı mini albümü meydana getirdi. Bu albümü ise Pagan Rec. etiketiyle ‘Sventevith (Storming Near The Baltic)’ albümü izledi. Albüm dünya çapında bir çok olumlu tepki aldı ve gruba ‘Grom’ albümünü çıkardıkları Solistitium Records ile bir anlaşma getirdi. Bu albüm; içeriği, bayan vokalleri, akustik gitarları ile muhtemelen grubun en çok tartışılan albümü oldu. Aynı zamanda Behemoth’a Avrupa kapılarını açan albüm olarak da kayıtlara geçti. Grup Avrupa’da tura çıktı ve aldıkları canlı tepkiler grubu oldukça sevindirdi..

Sıra üçüncü albüm ‘Pandemonic Incantations’I kaydetmeye gelmişti. Bu sırada gruba oldukça yetenekli bir baterist olan Inferno katıldı..

Başka bir başarılı turun ardından grup, 1998’de İtalyan Avantgarde Music ile iki albümlük bir anlaşma imzaladı. Bu birlikteliğin ilk ürünü oldukça başarılı bir albüm olan ‘Satanica’ oldu ki Satanica bir çok altın ödül aldı. Bu başarıların ardından firma, gruba Satyricon ve Deicide ile birer Avrupa turu ayarladı..

Son eser ise ufak tefek değişiklikler dışında ‘Satanica’ albümünün devamı niteliğindeydi. Yoğun gitar bölümleri ve kusursuz baterisiyle albüm eşsiz bir eser olmuştu ve Behemoth’un yaptığı işin doğruluğunu gösteriyordu. ‘Thelema.6’ vahşi, brutal ve süratli bir albümdü. Ayrıca albümde diğer gruplarda bulunmayan bir unsur daha vardı: yaratıcılık! Behemoth hem bestede hem de şarkı sözlerinde hep başka boyutlar aradı ve sonucunda black/death metalin eşsiz albümlerinden birine imza attı. Nergal ve şiir ortağı Krzysztof Azarewicz sofistike ve derin sözler yazma konusunda kararlıydılar.

'Thelema.6' dünya basını ve medyası tarafından oldukça destek gördü. Beklendiği gibi albüm Amerika’da Olympic Rec., Rusya’da Irond. Rec. ve Brezilya’da Moira rec. etiketiyle yayınlandı. Morbid Angel’a alt grup olarak gittiği Aralık 2000 tarihli “X-Mass Festivals” süresince grup yeni şarkılar yazdı. Behemoth ertesi sene ise yakın komşuları Rusya, Belarus, Latviya gibi ülkelerde konserler verdi.

2002 senesinde Nergal ve ekibi altıncı albümleri için çalışmalara başladılar fakat aynı zamanda da The Haunted ve Witchery ile beraber Rusya’ya ik**** seferlerini gerçekleştirdiler.

Yeni şarkıların tamamlanmasının ardından Behemoth, Hendrix Studio’ya kapandı ve eski arkadaşları Arkadiusz Malczewski ile beraber ‘Zos Kia Cultus (Here and Beyond)’ albümünü kaydettiler.

Albümün çifte prodüksiyon maliyetinin yanı sıra grup stüdyoda 700 saatten fazla süre geçirdi. Grubun müziğinin, Thelema’dan öteye gidemeyeceğini düşünenlere rağmen, sonuç oldukça başarılı ve beklentilerin üzerinde oldu. Albümün çıkışının hemen ardından grup tekrar yola koyuldu ve Avrupa çapında 36 konsere imza atarken; Destroyer 666, Diabolic, Darkane, Frontside, Crionics gibi gruplar Behemoth’un alt grupluğunda Avrupa’nın güneyinden, kuzeyine performanslarını sergilediler.
