SWALLOW AND SPARROW

Swallow and sparrow became close friends. They started walking around in together. Other swallows said nothing at the beginning about this circumstance. POOR AHMET

The waiters working in the restaurant and the customers couldn’t find any sense of Ahmet’s going and leaving two plates of meals to an empty table during lunch times. How would they know that they were Ahmet’s present to his mother and father, whom the poverty had finished years ago? Bunun üzerine tilki marketin arka bölümündeki et reyonuna bir kamera taktırmış. Bakalım neler dönüyormuş et reyonunda?

Birkaç gün sonra kamera kayıtlarını inceleyen tilki durumu olanca acılığıyla anlamış. Her gün öğle vakitleri bir aslan gelip et yiyor, karnı doyunca da, terlik, kürdan gibi bir zımbırtı satın alıp, çıkıyormuş.

Aslanın bir oturuşta yediği 8-10 kilo et, marketin günlük karını ikiye katlıyormuş. Bu gidişin sonu iyi değil diyen tilki, aslanı binde bir hisseyle ortak almış. Bunun üzerine mallar azalmasın diye aslan, marketten et yemeyi bırakıp, dışarıda avlanmaya başlamış.

Devekuşu şaşkın bir halde ne oldu, kime vurdum, diyerek kafasını kumdan çıkarmış. Bakmış aslan boylu boyunca yatıyor. Öldüğünü zannetmiş. Çevrede ne kadar devekuşu varsa toplayıp getirmiş.

ATATÜRK’S CHILDHOOD -2-

Mustafa’s sister, Makbule, was ill so that she stayed at home that day. For this reason Mustafa was going to take care of the broad bean field alone. It was not so difficult to run after crow. When he first started going to broad bean field to chase after them, the crows understood how clever he was and how difficult it was to overcome with the technique he used. They did their best but could not succeed in getting rid of him so they had to fly away. When Mustafa arrived in the field he took a chair out of the hut which was just in the middle of the field and he sat down on it. After about half an hour he started to get bored because he didn’t like sitting around doing nothing. He always wanted to keep busy and to help other people. He was useful for his uncle by taking care of the broad bean field but this was not enough for him. What else should he do? There were some books in the hut. He always thought that the best friends were books. You read them and you learn more and more things and improve your knowledge. He started reading one of the books. This was much better and he was not bored anymore.

After two hours Mustafa realized that an old man was coming towards him thorough the path in fields. There was a lamb with him. He sat down under a tree which was near the field. When Mustafa saw him sitting, he stood up, took his book back into the hut and left it there and went beside the old man. ‘Hello, sir. Where are you going? , he said to the old man.
‘I am going to the town to visit my son’, he replied and continued ‘I am taking this lamb as a present for my grandson. Last week they came to the village and stayed for a week and my grandson wanted me to give him a lamb as a present but I couldn’t because that time the lambs were too little and I promised to give him one when they grow up. Now I want him to grow up this lamb. The most important thing is love in the world. A person who is lack of love looks like a dying tree that means he doesn’t know what the love of nature or human means and he doesn’t know the value of love. A lot of nationalities became enemies and as a result humanity suffered from this hatred. We must show love to people and teach other people how to love. Because love is a great feeling and it makes people very happy and lively. We should love everything and be loved by everybody’, said the old man.

While he was talking, Mustafa was sitting down and listening to him very carefully. Now, it was his turn to talk.

‘Dear Sir, I get difficulty to understand why some people don’t love their countries. I love my country very much and I am proud of being a member of it. How can people who do not love their countries learn to love it? And how can I improve my love for my country? What would you advice me?’ he said.

The enthusiasm of Mustafa surprised the old man because he was only 10 years old but he was really well informed, cultured and intelligent, but he was not satisfied with it, so he wanted to improve himself much more and he could ask questions bravely. How many of the children at his age would care about the love of homeland.

The old man smiled and said ‘My son you haven’t told me what your name is’. Mustafa replied, ‘My name is Mustafa’. The old man suggested him reading the biography of Namık KEMAL who was a poet and never hesitated to shout out that his love for his country facing lots of prevention. He suffered a lot but he never gave up serving his country’.

Mustafa promised to read his poems much more carefully and asked the old man what happiness was according to him. ‘Happiness is very different for everyone’, said the old man and started talking about it.

‘Happiness is a reality and there is happiness in life and everybody has different forms of it. It is up to you whether to be happy without making others unhappy or not. You do not need money or big things to be happy. If you want, you can be happy when you see a butterfly flying or a flower blooming or people shaking hands. Anyway Mustafa I have to go because I have to be in the town before it gets dark. I will be very happy if I was able to teach you anything about love and happiness. Have a nice day’, he said.

Mustafa said that he was so pleased to talk to him and it was really a useful conversation for him. After the old man left, Mustafa turned back to the hut and started thinking about what they had talked with the old man.

ATATÜRK’ÜN ÇOCUKLUĞU - 2


Mustafa’nın kız kardeşi Makbule rahatsızlandığı için çiftlikte kalmıştı. Bugün Mustafa tek başına bakla tarlasında bekçilik yapacaktı. Şu karga kovalama işinin pek bir zorluğu kalmamıştı. Bakla tarlasına gelmeye başladığı ilk günlerde kargalar Mustafa’nın ne derece zorlu bir rakip olduğunu anlamışlar ve onun uyguladığı yöntemi müthiş bir mücadele örneği göstermelerine karşın boşa çıkaramamışlar, çekilip gitmişlerdi. Mustafa sabah erkenden bakla tarlasına gelince tarlanın tam ortasında bulunan kulübenin önüne bir sandalye çıkarıp oturdu. Aradan yarım saat geçmeden canı sıkılmaya başladı. Böyle boş oturmak O’na göre değildi. O, bir şeylerle meşgul olsun, bir işe yarasın, faydalı olsun isterdi. KELOĞLAN AND NASREDDİN HODJA - A TREASURE STORY

Keloğlan had gone to the town to sell chickens. When he arrived at the market, he started to look for a customer for the two chickens. A man offered to pay a gold coin for the chickens. Keloğlan didn’t accept this. He said that he absolutely wanted two gold coins for the chickens. The man saw that Keloğlan would not sell the chickens for a gold coin:

“Keloğlan look, I have a treasure map. I am alone, and I’ve already got old. That’s why I couldn’t look for the treasure. I used to work at Zenginoğlu’s mansion. Zenginoğlu gave me this map. Let me have the two chickens, have the map, look for and find the treasure, and be happy all your life” he said. Keloğlan believed the man, and agreed. Keloğlan returned home in the late afternoon. His mother shouted:

Keloğlan crossed mountains and hills, looking for days until finally he found the well on the map. The treasure was meant to be in this well. Nasreddin Hodja replied, “Since there is not enough current, this poisonous air gathers in the wells which haven’t been used for a long time and into which poisonous air leaks from the layers of earth around them. If someone goes down into these wells, they will poison and kill that person. As you have told me, the depth of the well is nearly 9 or 10 metres. It is too tiring and troublesome to dig and broaden the hole around the well, we can’t accomplish that. If we try to find a helper, it will spread from ear to ear, and the public will gather at the well. We must find another way Keloğlan. Stay with us for a couple of days as my guest, and I will think and find a suitable way.”

Nasreddin Hodja made plans during the following two days, and drew up drafts. He brought the plans to the smith. He admonished him to give the equipment that he had; to make those he didn’t have according to the drawings. The equipment was ready in a week. He had bought a cart which two donkeys pulled. He put the equipment, and necessities like food and drink in the car. He said goodbye to his wife and mounted his donkey. Hodja with his donkey in the front, and Keloğlan in the cart at the back, set off. After a troublesome journey lasting for days, they reached the well in which the treasure was. Hodja scrutinized the well. He took down the big bellows, which they had got the smith to make, next to the well with Keloğlan. They dangled one of the tips of a pipe, which was nearly 10 centimetres wide, into the bottom of the well. They attached the other tip to the bellows. They started to pump the bellows. The still and poisonous air - which had accumulated for years - started to scatter, rise slowly and get out of the well from the effect of the fresh and pressurized air. The rate of poisonous air in the well lessened each time the bellows pumped air. This process was continued the following day, too. On the third day they came to the conclusion that the well had been cleaned. Just to make sure, Nasreddin Hodja put a cat, which he had brought in the cart, into a sack. After tying up the sack with a rope, he lowered it into the bottom of the well. He saw that the cat was alive and kicking after pulling it back two hours later.

Tying the rope around his waist, Keloğlan had gone down the well. He took out the stone mentioned on the map. After digging the earth under the stone, he found the chest. He tied up the chest with the other rope near him and called out to Hodja to pull him. When Keloğlan had come out of the well, he pulled up the chest with Hodja. When they broke its lock and opened the chest, to their surprise they saw it was full of bright and shiny gold! They felt very happy. They shared the gold immediately. The next day, Nasreddin Hodja set off to Akşehir on his donkey, and Keloğlan set off to his village in the cart.

Keloğlan got a legendary mansion built in his village. He hired maids and manservants. He bought fields, vineyards, gardens. He started to live like a sultan with his mother. The Sultan heard about Keloğlan’s extraordinary wealth. When he was out hunting one day, he stopped by Keloğlan’s mansion. Keloğlan showed respect for the Sultan, and treated him in the best way. The Sultan, who was very pleased with this close interest, invited Keloğlan to his palace for the festival, which was going to be celebrated the following month.

Keloğlan went to the palace by coach and with manservants on the festival day. He met the Sultan’s extremely beautiful daughter, Violet, and fell in love. Violet loved Keloğlan at first sight and didn’t want him to leave. After the festival entertainments had finished, Keloğlan returned to his mansion. He told his mother that he had fallen in love with Sultan Violet at first sight and wouldn’t be able to live without her. They thought it over carefully and they decided to ask the Sultan’s consent to marry Violet. Later he went with his mother to ask the Sultan if he could marry his daughter. The Sultan accepted Violet’s marrying Keloğlan. Keloğlan returned to his mansion and started the wedding preparations. On the way he had sent messengers to Nasreddin Hodja to invite him to his wedding.

After Nasreddin Hodja had returned to Akşehir with his share, he clothed the poor and the orphans, and spent most of his money on good deeds. And at the same time he heard from his friends’ conversation and from the travellers passing by that Keloğlan had got a mansion built in his village, had hired menservants, had bought fields and started to live like a sultan, and he felt happy about the things he heard. When he heard about Keloğlan’s wedding invitation and that he was going to marry Sultan Violet, he regained a lot of his good humour. He started the preparations to go to the wedding. He bought carpets, furs, and silk cloths. He bought jewellery like earrings and a necklace for Violet. He also bought two coaches, which four horses would pull, and he also hired two manservants. He wore his most valuable clothes and his showiest fur. He set out with his wife a couple of days before the wedding. The Hodja arrived at the palace with his entourage, very ostentatiously. Keloğlan welcomed the Hodja at the door. He kissed his hand. They embraced and hugged each other. The Hodja told a lot of stories about events that he had lived, including witty remarks, until the wedding day. He made the guests have a funny time. Keloğlan and Sultan Violet married among the entertainments with musical instruments and much conversation. There were no words to describe their happiness. They lived happily for many years.

KELOĞLAN İLE NASREDDİN HOCA

Keloğlan kasabaya tavuk satmaya gitmiş. Pazara gelince elindeki iki tavuğa müşteri aramaya başlamış. Adamın biri tavuklara bir altın vermiş. Keloğlan bunu kabul etmemiş. İlle de iki tavuğa iki altın isterim demiş. Keloğlan’ın tavukları bir altına vermediğini gören adam:
“ Bak Keloğlan, bende bir define haritası var. Yalnızım, yaşlandım artık. Bu sebepten defineyi aramaya çıkamadım. Eskiden Zenginoğlu’ nun konağında çalışırdım. Bu haritayı bana Zenginoğlu vermişti. İki tavuk benim olsun, harita senin olsun, defineyi ara bul, ömrünce mutlu ol ” demiş. Keloğlan adama inanmış, değiş tokuş yapılmış. Keloğlan akşamüstü yorgun argın köyüne dönmüş. Anası:

“ A benim kel oğlum, kabak oğlum. Hiç bu kağıt parçasına iki tavuk verilir mi? Sen tavukları satıp gaz, tuz alacaktın. Kandırmışlar seni. Şimdi karanlıkta otur, yemekleri tuzsuz ye de aklın başına gelsin ” diyerek bağırıp çağırmış. Keloğlan oralı olmamış, aklı fikri definedeymiş. Sabahı zor etmiş, erkenden kalkmış. Anasına:

“ Ana ben defineyi aramaya gidiyorum. Kışlık yiyecek hazırlamıştım. Varsın gaz olmasın, akşamları erken yatarsın. Varsın tuz olmasın, komşudan istersin. Defineyi bulursam, seni sultanlar gibi yaşatacağım ”demiş. Anasının elini öpmüş. Keloğlan’ ın kararlı olduğunu gören anası çaresiz fikir değiştirmiş. “ Güle güle git, Keloğlan. İnşallah defineyi bulursun “ diyerek Keloğlan’ ı uğurlamış.

Keloğlan dağ-bayır aşmış, günlerce aramış, sonunda haritadaki kuyuyu bulmuş. Define bu kuyunun içindeymiş. Kuyuya attığı taş tak diye ses çıkarmış. Keloğlan kuyuda su olmadığını anlamış. Fakat geçen yıl köydeki kör kuyuya inen ve bir daha çıkamayan üç kişi aklına gelmiş. “ Yanımda köyden getirdiğim ip var. Kuyunun kenarına bağlayıp insem ya ben de onlar gibi kuyudaki zehirli dumandan boğulur kalırsam halim nice olur, diye düşünceye dalmış. Evvela bana mert, sözünün eri, kuyudaki tehlikeyi ortadan kaldırabilecek bir yardımcı lazım. Böylesi de nerelerde bulunur, diye düşünürken aklına Nasreddin Hoca gelmiş. Tamam demiş Hoca bu işin çaresini bulur. ‘

Az gitmiş uz gitmiş, sonunda Akşehir’ e varmış. Sormuş, Nasreddin Hoca’ nın evini göstermişler. Kapıyı çalmış. Nasreddin Hoca kapıyı açmış. “ Buyurun evladım “ demiş,
“ Ben Nasreddin Hoca’ yım. Bir şey mi arzu etmiştiniz? “

“ Hocam bizim köyde bana Keloğlan derler. Sizin önemli bir meselenin çözümüne yardımınızı rica edecektim. Beni dinlemek zahmetine katlanırsanız çok sevinirim. “
Hoca Keloğlan’ ı evine buyur etmiş. Keloğlan define haritasına nasıl sahip olduğunu, anasına veda edip köyden ayrıldığını, haritadaki kuyuyu bulduğunu, kuyuya neden inemediğini anlatmış. “ Eğer defineyi bulursak yarı yarıya paylaşırız, Hocam. Ne dersiniz? ” diyerek sözü bağlamış.

Nasreddin Hoca:

“ Uzun süredir kullanılmayan veya etrafındaki toprak tabakasından içine zehirli hava sızan kuyularda, yeterli hava akımı olmadığı için, bu zehirli hava birikir. Eğer böyle kuyulara inilirse insanı zehirler, öldürür. Söylediğine göre kuyunun derinliği dokuz on metre varmış. Kuyunun çevresini kazıp genişletmek çok yorucu ve zahmetli, ikimiz başaramayız. Yardımcı bulmaya kalksak kulaktan kulağa yayılır, halk kuyunun başına dolar. Başka bir yol bulmalıyız Keloğlan. Sen bizde birkaç gün misafir kal, düşünüp hal çaresini bulurum. “

Nasreddin Hoca sonraki iki gün planlar yapmış, taslaklar çizmiş. Planları demirciye götürmüş. Bu aletlerin olanını vermesini, olmayanı çizime uygun olarak yapmasını tembihlemiş. Haftasına aletler hazır olmuş. İki eşeğin çektiği bir araba almış. Arabaya aletleri, yiyecek, içecek gibi ihtiyaçları koymuş. Karısıyla vedalaşıp eşeğine binmiş. Nasreddin Hoca eşeğiyle önde, Keloğlan arabayla arkada, yola koyulmuşlar. Günlerce süren zahmetli yolculuktan sonra definenin bulunduğu kuyuya varmışlar. Hoca kuyuyu incelemiş. Keloğlan ile birlikte demirciye yaptırmış oldukları büyük körüğü kuyunun yanına indirmişler. Yaklaşık on santim genişliğindeki borunun bir ucunu kuyunun dibine sallamışlar. Diğer ucunu körüğe takmışlar. Birlikte körüğe temiz hava basmaya başlamışlar. Yıllardır burada biriken durgun ve zehirli hava, temiz ve basınçlı havanın etkisiyle parçalanmaya, yavaşça yükselmeye, kuyudan çıkmaya başlamış. Körük her hava basışında kuyudaki zehirli hava oranı azalıyormuş. Bu işlem ertesi gün de devam etmiş. Üçüncü gün kuyunun temizlendiğine kanaat getirmişler. Yine de her şeyden emin olmak için Nasreddin Hoca arabada getirdiği bir kediyi çuvala koymuş. Çuvalı ipe bağlayıp kuyunun dibine sarkıtmış. Yarım saat sonra kediyi çıkardığında dipdiri olduğunu görmüş.

Keloğlan ipi beline bağlayıp kuyuya inmiş. Haritada belirtilen taşı çıkarmış. Taşın altındaki toprağı kazınca, sandığı bulmuş. Yanındaki diğer ipe sandığı bağlamış ve Hoca’ ya kendisini çekmesi için seslenmiş. Keloğlan kuyudan çıkınca, Hoca ile sandığı yukarıya çekmişler. Sandığın kilidini kırıp, kapağını açınca, bir de ne görsünler: Çil çil altınlarla dolu değil miymiş sandığın içi… Çok sevinmişler. Hemen altınları paylaşmışlar. Ertesi gün, Nasreddin Hoca eşeğiyle Akşehir’e, Keloğlan arabayla köyüne doğru yola koyulmuşlar.

Keloğlan köyünde dillere destan bir konak yaptırmış. Hizmetçiler, uşaklar tutmuş. Tarlalar, bağlar, bahçeler satın almış. Anasıyla birlikte sultanlar gibi yaşamaya başlamış. Keloğlan’ ın görülmemiş zenginliği padişahın kulağına gitmiş. Ava çıktığı bir gün Keloğlan’ ın konağına uğramış. Keloğlan padişaha hürmet göstermiş, en iyi şekilde ağırlamış. Gördüğü yakın ilgiden çok memnun kalan padişah, Keloğlan’ ı gelecek ay kutlanacak bayram için, sarayına davet etmiş.

Bayram günü Keloğlan arabalar ve uşaklarla beraber saraya gitmiş. Eğlenceler sırasında padişahın dünya güzeli kızı Menekşe ile tanışmış ve aşık olmuş. Menekşe de Keloğlan’ ı görür görmez sevmiş ve yanından ayrılmak istemiyormuş. Bayram eğlenceleri bittikten sonra Keloğlan konağına dönmüş. Anasına Menekşe Sultan’ ı görür görmez aşık olduğunu, onsuz yapamayacağını söylemiş. Düşünmüşler, taşınmışlar, padişahtan Menekşe’yi istemeye karar vermişler. Daha sonra anasıyla gidip kızı istemişler. Padişah Menekşe’yi Keloğlan’ a vermiş. Keloğlan konağına dönüp düğün hazırlıklarına başlamış. Bir taraftan da Nasreddin Hoca’ ya haberciler gönderip, düğüne davet etmiş.

Nasreddin Hoca payına düşen altınlarla Akşehir’e döndükten sonra yoksulları, yetimleri, giydirip kuşatmış, parasının çoğunu hayır işlerinde kullanmış. Bir yandan da Keloğlan’ın köyünde konak yaptırdığını, uşaklar tutup, araziler satın alıp sultanlar gibi yaşamaya başladığını dost sohbetlerinde ve gelip giden yolculardan duyar, anlatılanlara sevinirmiş. Keloğlan’ ın düğün haberini ve Menekşe Sultan ile evleneceğini duyunca keyfi pek yerine gelmiş. Hemen düğüne gitmek için hazırlıklara başlamış. Halılar, kürkler, ipek kumaşlar almış. Menekşe’ye küpe, kolye, gerdanlık gibi ziynet eşyaları almış. Ayrıca dört atın çektiği iki araba satın almış, iki tane de uşak tutmuş. En değerli elbiselerini, en gösterişli kürkünü giymiş. Karısıyla birlikte düğünden birkaç gün önce yola çıkmış.

Nasreddin Hoca maiyetiyle birlikte gayetle şatafatlı bir şekilde saraya varmış. Keloğlan Hoca’ yı kapıda karşılamış. Elini öpmüş. Sarılmışlar, hasretle kucaklaşmışlar. Düğün gününe kadar Hoca başından geçmiş nice olaylara ince espriler katarak anlatmış. Davetlilerin hoşça vakit geçirmelerine yardımcı olmuş. Sazlı, sözlü eğlenceler arasında Keloğlan ile Menekşe Sultan evlenmişler. Mutluluklarına diyecek yokmuş. Daha uzun yıllar mutlu ve bahtiyar olarak yaşamışlar.

THE OCTOPUS

Our dear world; which is turning around silently somewhere in the universe, which is full of mysteries, secrets and a lot of unknown. The living creatures, which you have allowed to live on you, survive and take shelter for ten thousands of years, existing maybe only on you with everything of them. The idealists with their genuine talent of thought, with their power of imagination; who are possible to appear always and everywhere with their stubbornness and by leaving the normality of the life, which they have to live with pleasure, desire; and by getting a little over the normality to know an unknown, to help the solutions of problems and assimilating some kinds of efforts, searches for the benefit of that normalitists who they left behind.

Although a young octopus travelled a lot of places on the blue sea, the things he saw weren’t strange to him; he was indifferent to the things he saw as if he had seen them before and the motivating passion occurring in his thought, made him decide to reach the source, the spring of the river when he first realized it, which was flowing into the sea.

The young octopus started to move forward slowly. He could always have the chance to watch closely the trees, the grass, the flowers, the birds and the large and small living creatures by the river because he was taking pains to swim on the surface. As the days passed one after the other, the broadness of the river started to become narrow, the water started to flow a little more wildly and the slope started to increase. Since the young octopus was swimming towards the stream, he realized that he started to be some more compelled every passing day. If he didn’t suffer the difficulty and leave himself, he would be able to return to the sea. However, this was a matter that he wouldn’t be able to do. Now that he was an idealist and he had come till here for the sake of an idea, returning back could never be possible.

When the young octopus arrived at the side of the snowy mountain, which was difficult to see from faraway, a waterfall; whose water was falling from quite high, appeared. He had to cross this waterfall and go on his way, but how? A few attempts he made showed that it was impossible for now. Anyway he was tired. He had come till here without stopping, and by exerting himself to the utmost for days. He thought “I should relax for a while, gain my energy; when I believe that I can cross this waterfall, I will come and cross it and go on my way. I will take one of the paths I saw yesterday while I was coming, I will look for a place where I will be able to pass my days in peace. Let the waterfall wait for now.”

The young octopus returned back and took one of the paths. He reached a lake in the end by saying this or that way. The young octopus’ life in the lake lasted quite long. Actually time wasn’t very important for an idealist. Let the time pass. What was important was to be able to use the time skillfully. You would always improve and show progress in point of thought. You already had this idealism from birth. The conditions would force you to this whether you wanted or didn’t. When you started to support an idea, namely when you became an idealist, you would think carefully of your past and you would realize and be surprised that even how the unhappy, pessimistic, desperate days, which you don’t want to remember now, had educated you, and had made you experienced.

Several years passed and the young octopus had grown up and had become a mature octopus by the passing years. He always had good relationships with the living creatures in and around the lake; he had had quite a lot of accumulation of knowledge by adding his observations on the things they told. Everything was very well; perhaps it would be much better if the peole hadn’t pitched a camp near the lake. As soon as the octopus saw the people, he had listened to his common sense saying “be careful”, he had withdrawn to his cave at the bottom of the lake. He was passing his days in his cave; he was sometimes touring at the depth of the lake. On some days he saw a few boats on the lake but he couldn’t do anything more than watching the people’s in the boats rowing from the depth of the lake while swimming.

One day, while a boat was going near to the middle of the lake, it suddenly got dark. A heavy rain started. The wind blowing gradually harder was building big waves on the lake. The efforts of the people on the boat who were trying to escape from the storm were useless. They weren’t able to prevent their boat from capsizing and sinking. The octopus had felt the storm in advanced; he had taken the risk to be seen by the people on the boat and he had come a few metres close to the boat. He had covered two people, who were flopping about when the boat sank, with his strong arms, had come to the surface to prevent them drowning and started to swim quickly towards the shore. After leaving the unconscious people to a safe place, the octopus withdrew to his cave in the depth of the lake.

On the following ten days after this event, the octopus, who couldn’t see any boats on the surface of the lake, came to the surface because he thought that the people might have gone and he looked at the shore, where the camp was, from far away. The first thing that called his attention was the huge, iron boats. The people had also built wooden sheds near the tents, where the camp was pitched. There were lots of people on the shore. He started to swim towards the branch, which let the superfluous water of the lake float into the river. He was planning to come out of the lake going without making the people realize. However, when he reached the exit, he realized with sadness that there were barbed wires around, which were preventing him going. He was afraid of making a mistake. He could pull the wires to pieces, throw away and go on his way. There were the possibilities of getting injured and being undersized. The waterfall on the river was already a big problem on his way. It wouldn’t be proper to be powerless after crossing the waterfall.

On the following days the surface of the lake suddenly got into action. The ships that the people made by putting together the pieces, which they brought till the lake shore by lorries, started to move constantly. The divers started dive from the ships and examine the bottom of the lake. The harpoons that were in the divers’ hands would direct to the octopus as soon as it was seen. There was a huge octopus with eight arms, each of whose length was nearly five metres, and the one who would kill this octopus would be rewarded. It was necessary to think now. This octopus, who was wanted to be killed, saved certainly two people’s lives in a stormy weather. They had seen the octopus before they fainted and they informed the others too, there was even a reward. It is necessary to consider this situation as a labyrinth without an exit.

The octopus had understood that it was impossible to live in the lake now. Although all his goodwill, the people wouldn’t let him search some more in this lake. It was also unnecessary to live more in this lake. The things he learnt were enough and more than enough. The octopus got out of his cave with rancor. He came with a terrible speed out to the water surface just opposite the ships being anchored in front of the camp. He was puffing up and up and was causing artificial waves on the lake as he was saying “you have been looking for me for days, here I am and I’m not afraid of you”. He suddenly directed to his left. He entered the branch by pulling the barbed wires at the exit of the lake to pieces under the amazed looks of the people on the shore and he reached the river after a while. He came before the waterfall by withstanding easily to the river’s stream and he went up by holding his both arms out and by holding of the rocks there.

On the following days the octopus continued the intensive efforts to reach the source of the river. He was passing in difficulty through the gorges at the sides of the mountain where the source existed and he was moving forward step by step at the places where the depth didn’t let him swim. The rain falling on the sides of the mountains was turning into snow because of the weather’s getting gradually cold and trembling in the ice cold water under the snow was teaching him how difficult the life was in the mountains. When he started to think that it was impossible to go more forward, he found the source of the river. The source was coming out of rocks, it was coming out of a place like a cave and it was appearing on the earth.

The octopus summarized the topic: “Now that the source had been here. It comes out to the earth from that narrow place, it is fed by the rain and snow water, it goes down till the waterfall by gathering some of the little rivers’ water. After passing the waterfall, the water gathering a lot of branches from both sides gradually grows and it reaches the sea, where I was born, as a river and integrates with the sea. And the lake, where I lived for a long while, was nothing more than a drift of water, which let its superfluous water flow into the river by means of a branch.

On his way back, while coming closer to the waterfall, the octopus started to think. He wondered if the people would wait for him there. It was a fifty fifty possibility. Namely, they’d either wait or wouldn’t wait. It wouldn’t be definite. The octopus wasn’t absolutely frightened. Anyway, fear was the last think to be considered by an idealist in such a situation. There was no reason to be frightened. After the octopus evaluated the situation, considered what he would do after what might happen, he went down the waterfall. He went past the branch, which was connecting the lake to the river, by swimming bravely on the water.

The octopus reached the sea a few days later. He had set off years ago for the sake of an ideal when he was a young octopus; after years, he had turned back as a mature octopus. However, the ideal still wasn’t an ideal. An idealist should teach the others the things he learnt and should acquaint them too. As well as you couldn’t say you have enough knowledge for yourself so you wouldn’t need to learn more, you couldn’t also say you were more knowledgeable than the others; let the others not learn the things I knew. After relaxing for a while, the octopus wanted to start his attempts. He would teach the others the things he learnt and he would acquaint them too. Until there would be no other knowledge in his mind what he knew but the others didn’t…

AHTAPOT

Gizem dolu, sır dolu, pek çok bilinmezliklerle dolu kainatın bilmem nerelerinde sessizce dönüp durmakta olan sevgili dünyamız. Üzerinde yaşamalarına, hayat bulmalarına, barınmalarına olanak tanıdığın on binlerce yıldan beri her şeyi ile belki de sadece sende var olan canlı varlıklar. Özgün düşünme yetenekleriyle, hayal güçleriyle, inatçılıklarıyla her zaman, her yerde ortaya çıkabilen ve bir bilinmezi bilmek için, problemlerin çözümüne yardımcı olmak için şevkle, istekle; kendilerinin yaşamaları lazım gelen hayatın normalitesinden arınarak, normalitenin bir parça üstüne çıkarak ve o geride bıraktıkları normalitecilerin yararına bir takım çabalar, arayışlar içine giren idealistler.

Denizin engin maviliklerinde aylardır pek çok yeri gezip dolaşmasına karşın gördükleri ona hiç de yabancı gelmeyen, o gördüklerine daha önceden biliyormuşçasına ilgisiz ve bu denize sularını akıtan ırmağı ilk fark ettiğinde düşüncesinde oluşan tutkunun harekete geçirdiği, ırmağın çıkışına, kaynağına ulaşmaya karar verdirttiği bir genç ahtapot.

Genç ahtapot ırmakta ağır ağır ilerlemeye başladı. Daima yüzeyde bulunmaya özen gösterdiği için, ırmak kenarında bulunan ağaçları, otları, çiçekleri, kuşları ve küçüklü, büyüklü canlı yaratıkları yakından incelemek olanağını buluyordu. Günler birbiri ardına geçip gittikçe, ırmağın genişliği daralmaya, sular daha bir coşkun akmaya ve meyil artmaya başladı. Genç ahtapot, akıntıya karşı yüzdüğü için, her geçen gün biraz daha fazla zorlanmaya başladığını fark etti. Hani sıkıntıya katlanamayıp kendini bırakıverse hiç yorulmadan denize geri dönebilecekti. Fakat, bu onun yapamayacağı bir işti. Mademki bir idealistti ve bir idea uğruna buralara kadar gelmişti, geriye dönüş söz konusu olamazdı.

Genç ahtapot çok uzaklarda zorlukla fark edilen karlı dağın yamaçlarına ulaştığında önüne oldukça yüksekten suların döküldüğü bir çağlayan çıktı. Bu çağlayanı aşıp yoluna devam etmesi gerekirdi, ama nasıl? Yaptığı bir iki deneme bu işin şimdilik olanaksız olduğunu gösterdi. Zaten yorgundu.

Genç ahtapot geriye dönüp, ırmağın kollarından birine girdi.Yok şurası, yok burası derken,sonunda bir göle vardı. Genç ahtapotun göldeki sakin yaşantısı oldukça uzun sürdü. Gerçekte bir idealist için zamanın fazla bir önemi yoktu. Zaman bırak geçsindi. Önemli olan geçen zamanı ustaca değerlendirebilmekti. Devamlı olarak fikir bakımından bir büyüme, bir ilerleme içinde olacaktın. Bu idealistçilik zaten sende doğuştan vardı. Sen istemesen de şartlar seni buna zorlardı. Aradan yıllar geçmiş,geçen yıllarla birlikte genç ahtapot büyümüş,olgun bir ahtapot olmuştu.Gölde ve gölün çevresinde yaşayan canlı varlıklarla daima iyi ilişkiler kurmuş, onların anlattıklarına kendi gözlemlediklerini de ekleyerek epey bir bilgi birikimine sahip olmuştu. Her şey çok güzeldi, belki de çok daha güzel olacaktı. Eğer göl kıyısına insanlar kamp kurmasalardı. Ahtapot insanları göl kıyısında görür görmez, içgüdüsünden gelen dikkat et sesine kulak vermiş, gölün dibindeki mağarasına çekilmişti. Günlerini mağarasında geçiriyor, ara sıra da, gölün derinliklerinde dolaşıyordu. Bazı günler göl yüzeyinde bir iki kayık görüyor, fakat kayıklardaki insanların kürek çekişlerini gölün derinliklerinde yüzerek seyretmekten başka hiçbir şey yapmıyordu.

Günlerden bir gün, bir kayık gölün ortalarına yakın bir yerde giderken ortalık kararıverdi. Şiddetli bir yağmur başladı. Gittikçe daha sert esmeye başlayan rüzgar gölde büyük dalgalar oluşturuyordu. Kayıkta bulunan insanların yaklaşan fırtınadan kaçmak için gösterdikleri çabalar boşuna oldu. Kayıklarının alabora olarak batmasını bir türlü engelleyemediler. Ahtapot yaklaşan fırtınayı önceden hissetmiş, kayıkta bulunan insanlar tarafından görülme tehlikesini göze alarak kayığın birkaç metre altına kadar sokulmuştu. Kayık battığında dev dalgalar arasında çırpınıp duran iki insanı güçlü kollarıyla sıkıca kavrayıp, onların boğulmalarına engel olmak için, yüzeye çıktı ve süratle kıyıya doğru yüzmeye başladı. Baygın durumdaki iki insanı kıyıda emin bir yere bırakan ahtapot, gölün derinliklerindeki mağarasına çekildi.

Bu olayı takiben geçen on gün içinde göl yüzeyinde hiç kayık göremeyen ahtapot insanların gitmiş olabileceklerini düşünerek yüzeye çıkıp çok uzaklardan kampın bulunduğu kıyıya doğru baktı. İlk dikkatini çeken şey, kıyıdaki kocaman demir kayıklar oldu. İnsanlar ayrıca kampın bulunduğu çadırların yanına tahtadan barakalar yapmışlardı. Çok insan vardı kıyıda. Gölün fazla sularını ırmağa akıtan kola doğru yüzmeye başladı. Kıyıdaki insanlara fark ettirmeden gölden çıkıp gitmeyi planlıyordu. Fakat çıkışa vardığında etrafta gitmesini engelleyen dikenli teller olduğunu üzülerek gördü. Bir hata yapmaktan korkuyordu. Bu dikenli telleri parçalayıp atar, yoluna devam edebilirdi. İşin içinde yaralanmak,çaptan düşmek olasılığı da vardı. Irmaktaki çağlayan zaten yolunun üstünde bir büyük engeldi. Çağlayanın karşısına çıktığında güçsüz durumda bulunmak yakışık almazdı.

Sonraki günlerde göl yüzeyi birdenbire hareketlendi. İnsanların göl kıyısına kadar kamyonlarla getirdikleri parçaları birbirine monte ederek yaptıkları gemiler vızır vızır gidip gelmeye başladı. Gemilerden dalgıçlar göle girerek, gölün dibini taramaya başladılar. Dalgıçların ellerindeki zıpkınlar görülür görülmez ahtapota yöneltilecekti. Gölde her kolunun uzunluğu beş metreyi bulan sekiz kollu dev bir ahtapot vardı ve bu ahtapotu öldüren ödüllendirilecekti. İşte burada biraz düşünmek gerekirdi. Katledilmek istenen bu ahtapot fırtınalı bir havada iki insanı mutlak bir ölümden kurtarmıştı. Onlar bayılmadan önce kendilerini kurtaranı görmüşler, ötekileri ahtapotun varlığından haberdar etmişlerdi. Korkunç bir süratle kampın önünde demirli bulunan gemilerin tam karşısında su yüzeyine çıktı. Günlerdir arıyordunuz işte buradayım ve sizden korkmuyorum der gibi kabardıkça kabarıyor, gölde yapay dalgaların oluşmasını sağlıyordu. Aniden soluna doğru yöneldi. Kıyıdaki insanların hayret dolu bakışları altında göl çıkışındaki dikenli telleri paramparça ederek kola girdi ve bir süre sonra ırmağa ulaştı. Irmağın akıntılarına rahatça karşı koyarak çağlayanın önüne geldi ve iki kolunu uzatarak oradaki kayalara tutunup yukarıya çıktı.

Daha sonraki günlerde ahtapot ırmağın kaynağına ulaşmak için gösterdiği yoğun çabayı devam ettirdi. Kaynağın bulunduğu karlı dağın yamaçlarında daracık boğazlardan zorlukla geçiyor, derinliğin yüzmesine olanak tanımadığı yerlerde de adım adım ilerliyordu. Yamaçlarda yağan yağmur havanın giderek soğumasıyla birlikte kara dönüşüyor, yağan kar altında buz gibi soğuk suda titremek ona dağlarda yaşamın ne derece zorlu olduğunu öğretiyordu. Ahtapot daha ileriye gitmenin mümkün olmadığını düşünmeye başladığı bir sırada ırmağın kaynağını buldu. Kaynak, kayaların arasından, mağara gibi bir yerden, yeryüzüne çıkıp doğuyordu.

Ahtapot konuyu özetle toparladı: “ Demek kaynak burasıymış. Su bu daracık yerden yeryüzüne çıkıyor, yağan kar ve yağmur sularıyla besleniyor, çevreden kimi dereciklerin sularını alarak çağlayana kadar iniyor. Uzun bir süre içinde yaşadığım göl de fazla sularını ırmağa bir kol aracılığıyla akıtan büyükçe bir su birikintisinden başka bir şey değilmiş. “

Dönüş yolunda, çağlayana yaklaştıkça, ahtapotu bir düşüncedir aldı. Acaba insanlar onu oralarda bekleyebilirler miydi? Bu yüzde elliye yüzde elliydi.Yani bekleyebilirlerdi de beklemeyebilirlerdi de. Ahtapot, birkaç gün sonra denize vardı. Yıllar önce, genç bir ahtapotken, bir idea uğruna yola çıkmış; yıllar sonra, büyük, olgun bir ahtapot olarak işte geriye dönmüştü. Fakat, idea, ideal değildi henüz. Bir idealist, öğrendiklerini başkalarına da öğreterek, onları da bilgilendirmeliydi.
